I don’t think it will be the MK3 version and the R-Line were seeing here today is the “Edition” trim with a few items missing over the standard R-Line trim.

VW have been building up a stock of the editions so might have a quick deliver (famous last words I know) over other trim levels. Normally in the past VW introduce a “Match” or “Tech” trim to get rid of all the old parts and clear the shelves before the new model gets launched however with the parts shortages that’s all changed so what were seeing is a strip down instead of a build up model.

The new Motability R-Line is about £900 AP cheaper than what I paid so that alone says a lot but that said the edition trim is well worth a look because you gain £900 for starters but lose little.

So what has changed between the old standard R-Line and the Edition? Well what I would say is while the R-Line is the looker of the Tiguan family the Edition reduces that look a tiny bit with smaller wheels and cheaper alloys along with Rear Traffic Alert and Side Assist.

As the smaller wheels go this should mean a smoother ride and although they don’t look so handsome you may prefer the more comfortable ride. As for the other two items, Rear Traffic Alert is a handy option to have seeing the R-Line does not have a rear view camera and Side Assist is OK but not important, well not to anyone who knows how to use mirrors it isn’t. You still get all round parking sensors.

Still worth a look with the reduced AP and all the other great stuff this car has as standard in the autonomous driving world that I’ve found fantastic the past month I’ve had my R-Line but I stress autonomous driving is not for everyone as its a new style of driving and like Marmite either you like it or you don’t.
