I would like to add something to this forum, which may be helpful. I had the 1.6 petrol of the latest version Kia Sportage (May 2022) and I too found myself in a similar situation to many people in this forum, where the ‘keep driving to regenerate the exhaust’ warning light came on. I had only bought the car from the dealer 6 weeks earlier. I contact two service departments: one said payment was a the discretion of the dealer. Another wanted to charge me £150 for a forced regeneration. I was extremely unhappy that Kia were selling cars with a known fault. I contacted the dealer who sold it to me, saying I was unhappy. He said it was outside the 30 days, so legally, they couldn’t help me. I then spoke to the Sales Manager, explaining the situation. I was expecting a reliable car and the excellent customer service I had previously experienced with Kia. He finally agreed to buy the car back and offered a full refund. But only because I persisted. They tried to fob me off initially. The Sales Manager then explained that two of their cars had the warning light, and they just keeping driving them. He said Kia has said that a new part will be arriving in the UK in the next 4-6 weeks (so May-June 2023), which should resolve the problem. Pity this hasn’t filtered through to the service departments, who just tell me there is no recall. But of course, how long will it take to recall the cars and have it replaced? I drove 140 miles (mainly motorway) to return the car to the dealer, and the warning light was still on. So, it may not be worth driving aimlessly long distances, wasting time, fuel and polluting the environment when the light may not go off anyway. I didn’t want to risk such an expensive purchase and by worrying if the problem will be resolved. And it’s not great having the constant reminder in front of you for weeks or months until it might be sorted. The Service Manager said that he didn’t think the car would go into limp mode because of this. It’s certainly tainted my view of Kia for the time being.
