This really is greenwashing.
IF a BEV was the right choice right now for everyone, then I’d be right behind getting the ICE cars off the production lines but, simply put, they’re not. If you’re in a city flat, or a housing association or privately rented house, a terraced house without parking or any of a myriad of possibilities where an EV simply can’t work, then this just means you’re going to get forced into buying used cars earlier.
There are a lot of good reasons to drive an EV and there are a few good reasons why you can’t, most of which are based around either your ability to charge at home, your need to pull a heavy trailer/caravan or your daily business mileage. The public charging network is improving but will rapidly fall behind demand if these quotas are enforced. The desire of government to put money into the infrastructure appears to be a long way behind the noise they make.
