Firstly the sun is nothing to do with it especially when watching in the evening. Because of the panel lottery with Samsung back then and to some extent now its difficult to know what manufacturer screen they have without going into the engineer menu known as the “secret menu” I don’t want you to go into this menu on the off chance you accidently alter a setting making the Tv’s unusable, plus I’m too far away to come and put it right.
Just phoned a friend who’s still in the repair business for him to email a copy of his back cataloge of panel types. He did confirm the 32″ is a VA panel and the 46″ an IPS panel, with the 40″ been either VA or IPS. However he can gusrantee for the European market 40″ and over were IPS panels.
A VA panel is said to have a better clarity, contrast and black levels, Probably why you prefered the picture quality on the Sony A80k which has A VA panel compared to the A85K which had IPS.
With that said if you watch these video, both are the same TV line the 50″ has a VA panel the 43″ has an IPS panel.
