    Hi All Hope you are all OK I’ve just contacted my dealership to check on the progress of my Kona which was ordered on the 5th May last year. At the time, delivery was estimated as September 2022. I’ve been advised that it’s still showing ‘factory’ with a projected date of October this year. Under the current circumstances, is this reasonable/likely?

     

    Hi Debs, I’m afraid the waiting time for a factory order is very frustrating. There doesn’t seem to be any logical arrangement for fulfilling any of the orders. My dealer said it was because I had ordered an Ultimate in the Jungle Green but people would had the same spec as myself received their Konas long before me even though they ordered after me. Now with Hyundai launching the Next Generation Kona all Hyundai models are being pushed back by months. All last year some of the factories in Ulsan were periodically closed for new equipment to be installed for the production of the Next Generation Kona. This sent our orders back by a couple of months. So it is feasible that your order will not be ready until October but equally it is perfectly possible for your order to jump up the factory list by a few months because there are so many cancellations happening each week.

    There are a flood of cancellations of Konas both Premium and Ultimate, a very good opportunity to seek one out. You could approach your dealer and ask if they have a cancellation on their books. You could also ring around other Hyundai dealers and ask the same question. I did this myself and my dealer got back to me after a couple of days to say a cancelled Kona Ultimate was on a ship headed for Tilbury and would I like it. Of course I said yes, regardless of colour. I am waiting for delivery, can only be a matter of a couple of weeks to finish the checks Tilbury. I have read on a few Electric Vehicle sites that quite a few people have taken this route and have been successful. It is easy to do the change over from your order to a cancelled order, takes minutes to do. Your dealer will do this for you, Motability have no problem with this.  It is something to think about.
