I think we’ve had this conversation before Kezo and my position is that EVs won’t work without some sort of V2G/V2X. As we move forward with green energy it essential we have battery storage. Switching off wind farms needs to be a thing of the past, not collecting the energy produced by solar panels must be a thing of the past. Battery storage is the only practical way to do this.

The government could, and will, provide such storage but ignoring the potential provided by the batteries in EVs is a crime. Having a battery on wheels outside your house able to provide electricity to the grid, or your house, when needed, is a game changer.

The cost of the chargers is high and will need to be reduced considerably if they are to be adopted but as with any new tech the cost will come down as the manufacturing numbers increase.

I agree that many fleet cars are out on the road most of the day but the introduction of salary sacrifice schemes mean there are many cars parked outside the place of work during the shift they are working. Then we have buses, school buses (used sparingly during the day), road gritters and other seasonal vehicles, council waste disposal trucks etc.

When these are EVs they can be used as battery back up and for the purpose they were intended providing energy cost savings as well as providing energy to the grid.

I certainly agree that the grid needs to be upgraded it is a shambles in many areas but this can be done as V2X is rolled out.
