    Depends on what source of energy you use to produce the vehicle. Looks like the Volvo article assumes the car is being produced using mainly coal, which unfortunately is the current global mix. However if the car is produced in say Norway which uses hydro-electricity it only takes 8400 miles to reach parity and from then on the EV is quids in.

    I’ve never said that EVs on their own are a panacea. We also have to generate power in a sustainable way as well. We all have to change the dangerous habits we have adopted. What is without doubt is that if we continue as we are the future doesn’t look good, time is of the essence.

    Sodium-ion batteries which I believe are the next step in the ongoing development of EVs will drastically reduce the carbon footprint. It’s not just ICE cars that are the problem its energy produced by fossil fuel. We have to approach the problem holistically.
