I don’t think the government cares too much, as long as it keeps making the “right” noises. It’s for two governments down the line to sort out the mess…
That’s true and there aspiration is making the UK the riches third world country in the world.
Having worked in many Euopean countries and futher afield, in an electrical capacity through out my working life. I can confidently say are electrical grid is one of the worse in many ways. With Many of our European friends, it is common place to see 3 phase supply’s in existing home, but the current per phase is lower. However it is common place to see 11Kw charger’s , which charge over 50% faster than a 7.4Kw charger. Here in the UK very few who have chargers fitted to exisisting homes are upgraded to 3 phase. Not only that it is mandatory (forget the date) new builds are fitted with a charge point, but not a 3phase supply.
Vehical manufacturers are now installing 22Kw onboard chargers to BEV’s. Essentially it’s just a charger upgrade needed, unless they have already installed a variable 7.4-22Kw charger. Thats 3 times faster than the UK’s 7.4Kw.
The EU and its countries are going to spend £584b upgrading their network and on digitalizing there 40+ yrs old electrical grid’s. It’s worth noting physical upgrades would be impossible. More can be seen here if our interested… https://tinyurl.com/yeym4h75
At the same time the UK rolls out its chargers, has no plan or imediate plan to upgrade our grid, whether thats digitalization or not. Or is there a plan to bring us future capabilities of charging at 11Kw ket alone 22Kw. Instead Ministers sat there in 2021, recognised the potential issues with our network and decided, rather than do anything about it – they will bring in legislation to decrease the flow to domestic charge points when needed or demand is high. Did you expect anything else!
I prefer facts and I’m cetainly not anti EV, but what an embaressment when some of are European friends visit us.
For the sake of my post I will mention, there around 8-10 EU countries that don’t have or very little in the way of chargers!
