I’m very much with Glos Guy regarding touring and distance driving generally with a petrol car and with Stuart driving locally with an electric car, which is why I’m sold (for now) on PHEVs like our current XC40!
Right now though many of the phev are almost 4.5k and over unless you go for the RENAULT CAPTUR HATCHBACK which for many could be a bit small.
2 of my brothers do have captur’s and have little kids and the 261 litre boot ain’t bad at all.
Its probably the only one I could maybe justify the ap of a phev on two trims £1,395 and £1,695 Range 45 km or (27 miles) and Average miles per gallon 217.3 mpg or so it says but will you get that?
Smaller than and less refined than your xc40, but at the moment I think it’s very good value for money considering the ap’s of others.
The new Nissan QQ e-power is very interesting and deffo a better way to go if you cannot charge at home, but the proof is in the costs and actual the day to day practically.
It does have a large boot 504 litres and we did have an acenta trim QQ in 2011(my 1st on the scheme) and is priced at £1,699. I’d have to compare the trims but for me the tekna is to much ap, considering they say it’s Average miles per gallon is 52.3 mpg, one less than the acenta trim.
I could maybe justify the connecta trim £300 more, as with fuel over 3 years it would be around the 5k mark with ap & fuel the same as some other bigger phev’s ap’s but then you have to add the cost of elec or fuel to that also.
So over 3 years the best/affordable option for us is what we have right now, around £3.5k over the 3 years all in and no worries of having to charge.
My mrs hates leather seats, so gotta please her also. But i do understand for many they need them as what happens if you damage the seats getting in and out, surely mb should take that into consideration. But as many say they don’t seem to care much about the small details that some find a problem, getting in and out etc and as many have mentioned is why they need leather seats, although many are synthetic now and not as good as the real McCoy imo.
Right now i’m doing only 6 to 7k a year in my mhev so at current prices of 15p a mile, say at the max of 7k it’s £1,050 a year on fuel.
So only the captur would actually make financial sense, over what we have now off the scheme a suzuki vitara 1.4 mhev, even on the scheme the fhev in the trim i have the ap is only £499, but the problem for me is the ags gearbox.
The mhev works for us size wise having two kids that 11 and 16 and i don’t think the captur would. Ceratinly in 2017 we looked at the captur & clio and went for the golf as it was just that bit bigger in the back for them and especlly as I’m 6,2 with long legs the seats back all the way in most cars.
What it tells me is phev at current prices might not be as good for some as for others and you need to look at it from your specific needs and ap’s that reflect those. For me I cannot spend any more than £5k in all costs over the 3 year period. Which is £138.88 over the allowance a month.
