I was looking at the Nissan QQ which uses a 1.5 petrol to do a similar thing, just a generator to power a battery which powers a motor which drives the wheels. Sounds amazing in principle but reading some of the reviews i`m not so sure. I never believe what i read 100% and would always test drive anyway.
Apparently under heavy acceleration the engines can be very loud and harsh as the demand rises, one reviewer said it sounded like a CVT gearbox does when you request a gear at high revs. I would need to test drive one as the few reviews i have read are on the fence ATM as to whether it really is worth it or not.
