It also worries me when we go away, the static caravan site we go to doesn’t have any chargers and a similar number of public chargers as us in the next nearest town.

Sorry if i’m ignorant, i’ve never actually been camping or caravanning – don’t camping sites have electric connections that you plug your caravan into? I genuinely don’t know, but if they do, you can certainly charge the EV at the site. You just can’t charge it fast. Which shouldn’t be that big an issue, since the car is stationary on the site for the most part (i’d assume a camping trip usually takes longer than 24h).

As i said, i’ve never been camping or caravanning, but while charging in certain areas certainly is an issue, in regards to that particular topic, it’s not as big of a problem as you might think. You can charge EVs from a normal socket (granny-charging), just takes a while. Probably around 20 hours for a full charge, but that doesn’t seem that outlandish to park a car for 20 hours while camping (assuming a full charge is necessary in the first place).

In regards to the video that was posted.. It’s nonsense, as so often with debate-bros on youtube. Here’s something that immediately was obvious: the argument that EVs are bad or even worse for the environment than ICE if you take into account emissions created through building/charging them. When compared to an ICE car that you, apparently, don’t need to refuel since drilling, refining and transport of petrol/diesel somehow magically is missing from his tally.

I’ve said this recently, this “they’re not more eco friendly than ICE cars” is some bollocks spun by right wing papers – and has been thoroughly debunked for ages now. Including by people who don’t have skin in the game like said speaker in the video (he’s an automotive principal working for Southwest Research: https://www.swri.org/sectors/automotive – important to check your sources, of course someone from a company heavily invested into ICE would argue against EVs).

    Here’s an example. https://climate.mit.edu/ask-mit/are-electric-vehicles-definitely-better-climate-gas-powered-cars

I’ll trust the MIT over random debate-bro on youtube, even if his views confirm mine (confirmation bias).
