I knew this would happen and what a dilemma I find myself in now? ? I have an order for a VW Tiguan R-Line in since October 21, the year before last, and its due for delivery sometime over the next few weeks, I was expecting it the week before Christmas but assume I’m a low priority customer and others took priority. Anyway today the Tiguan Elegance has returned to Motability and although the R-Line is a more expensive car its the Elegance that’s the true go for car and was my preferred car when ordering 14 months ago but has only just returned to Motability. Just to put the knife in my back and give a twist the much more desired Elegance has an AP £250 less than the AP I will be paying soon plus I ordered IQ Lights that are standard on the Elegance but a £450 extra payment on the R-Line so £700 saving in total. ? So do I cancel the current order, if I can, and risk another 14 months wait or take my order and be damned with it. I have a bit of a doubt about cancelling as I’m on an extension that has finished so in a bit of a no man land. My dealer is closed until Tuesday but I feel a visit is on the cards.

I’d stick with your order ChrisK. You are right that the Elegance makes a lot more sense than the R-Line if ordering now, as it has a lot more equipment as standard (although I think that the lack of leather trim as standard is shocking in a top of the range car of that value). The R-Line looks better though and you have specced yours with the all important iQ lights. Lead times for lease cars remain ludicrous compared to private buyers so you could be in for a very long wait. Meantime you could be enjoying your new car. The Tiguan is getting on a bit now so there’s a good chance that 3 years from now, when your new R-Line is coming to the end of it’s lease, an all new model might be available and also the Motabilty scheme will have recovered to whatever the ‘new normal’ might be. Pulling out now and starting again could mean a 12 month wait and then you not being able to take advantage of a (hopefully) improved choice until 4 years from now.
