Well what a pleasant surprise. A quarter change with some meaningful and positive changes. Still a heck of a long way to go, but some definite green shoots.

The surprise arrival of the BMW X2 gives me some hope that the new X1 might have made it on to the scheme by the time we are due to change in 2024. With the decline in the scheme over the past 18 months, I would have put money on it never appearing. I’d need to do some serious number crunching to work out if the PHEV is worth the extra AP if the superb 2.0i petrol that we have in our current X1 makes a return.

I was 95% certain that we would be leaving the scheme after our current car. Whilst none of todays additions would tick every box for us, we are still another 4 or 5 quarter changes away from being able to order, so if this trend continues I am hopeful that the scheme may be back in contention. There’s no way that the cars that we had started contemplating buying privately will be on the scheme, but it will be good if we can at least have some decent contenders in the Motability scheme to weigh them up against. Let’s hope that todays additions are the start of a prolonged recovery in the scheme.
