It is in fact a wealth tax on the working poor, most people who drive older polluting vehicles do so becuase they cannot afford anything better, while those more affluent who can afford newer less polluting vehicles will not be affected.
This is correct.
But to put the blame for that at the manufacturers like the daily vomit is trying to do, i mean.. i’d argue that the blame should go to the government. Any other country that put a “ban” on future ICE in place still has grants in place to reduce the price of EVs. There’s plenty of stuff that the government could do to make access to EVs easier, we could take the 500 billion pounds the Tories burned by appointing a reaganist that got hit by a hammer on the head a few too many times and reintroduce a £15.000 discount on all EVs and still save hundreds of billions. Germany still pays 6k euros towards an EV, so does france – and france increases that threshold to 7k for low income households.
Us? Maybe 75% off of a charging point, yay i guess.
But nah.
