It definitely drives like a hybrid (without the CVT drone that the RAV4 has), but certainly isn’t a conventional hybrid – the petrol engine charges the batteries which propel the vehicle. One of the best features of this set up was when going up a hill, you don’t get the sense that the engine is working hard – just the same as if it were being driven on a horizontal road.
