Some VAG cars have high voltage PTC heaters, not to be confused with the remote diesel fuelled one, only comes on under very specific circumstances, ambient and coolant temperature very low and heater set to high, you know if you have at fitted as there is an option for Auxiliary Heater in the settings somewhere.
