The last new car I bought before D-Day (disabled day 2nd March 2008) the dealer would only accept a bankers draft but never had any problems using cards since becoming a Motability customer other than some dealers will not accept more than £500 in cash.
That said on my last change over in 2018 with my current car the dealer insisted I paid the AP amount using my standard bank card the day before collecting the car.
