We had a 2017 (second gen?) X-Trail; our first (and only) SUV. The ride was not bad, and the higher view was useful. The amount of room in the back and the rear seat adjustment were fantastic. Liked the moon roof. My husband, found it easier to get in and out of, but I had difficulty in climbing in. He said the gearchange was like stirring porridge. Also, and not sure if this is a fault of the X-Trail or all SUVs, but other than slow speed corners, it always felt as if it was going to fall over, and the seats gave little or no side support when cornering. Hubby had steering wheel to hold onto, but the rest of the passenger (including me) got thrown around. Can’t comment on the off-road performance or how it performed in the snow as we didn’t have the car for long. IMHO unless you need to drive off road or often get snowed in (live on The Moors), and estate car is a much more practical proposition.
