Karoq and Kodiak are basically the same as the Ateca but with lesser spec for the price.  Will have to wait until next year to see what the options are, hopefully the chip shortages will have improved in the next 9 months or so (not holding my breath!).

The Karoq is the sister car of the Ateca, true. The Kodiaq isn’t.

The Kodiaq is based on the MQB-A2 platform, which it shares with the SEAT Tarraco and Tiguan Allspace. The Ateca (as well as Karoq) is the MQB-A1 platform. One is a midsized SUV platform, the other one is C-segment (compact).

Stating that the Tiguan Allspace is basically the same as the Ateca isn’t, even with goodwill, correct. It’s one of the biggest/tallest platforms available on the scheme currently – at 1.66cm it tops the Ateca by 5cm, the new Sportage by 3cm, the 5008 by 2cm – only really bested by the Tiguan Allspace which is 1cm taller and the tallest car on the scheme if i’m not mistaken.

In fact, being on the scheme or not, there’s not much out there in that segment (midsize) that’s better. The X3 is a few mm lower, a Q5 is lower by cms, etc.

That said, the Kodiaq does indeed have less spec than our XCellence Lux’, but i guess that’s where the compromise lies.
