Not sure what it is like where you live but a blue badge does not get free parking, we have to pay the same as others, granted the one time in my 70 plus years that I crossed the Dartford Bridge I did not have to pay, but that was because my car is registered as disabled, nothing to do with my badge. Although I understand if you tell them beforehand it may get you free access, but down here you need more than just a blue badge to get bridge concessions.
As rox says, the main reason for having a badge is it allows you to park in places others can not; without which there are many things that one would not be able to do.
