Hello all – long time reader first time poster. Please can anyone advise if they have actually driven the new Sportage with the mild hybrid 1.6 petrol engine? Every Kia dealership only seem to have the HEV as a demonstrator…… ironically the one we can’t order now….. I like many I’m sure were about to order the HEV full (non plug in) but it was removed. I currently have a BMW X1 2.oD (187 bhp) which I have extended for 2 years, before that had the Focus ST TDCI estate (186 bhp)……. just not sure if a 148bhp petrol will feel underpowered? Thought or opinions welcome. Thanks

    Hi,

I had a 1 hour test drive in the HEV GT line S 1.6 auto FWD and it was STUNNING!!! The only difference in drive between that and the 48v equivalent is that the non HEV will not be in EV mode ever. So from a practical point of view, whilst I loved the HEV, EV start and moving off (smooth, silent and rapid), I could not tell the difference when the petrol engine took over apart from the rev counter needle suddenly start moving.  From an everyday driving perspective this is the only difference (besides MPG) that you should notice.

Internally, with the 48v, you will gain AWD with terrain control and a choice of Eco, Normal or Sport mode. You will lose any EV and Park Smart Assist.

Externally, with the 48v you will gain 19 inch (over 18 inch) wheels (19 are far better looking imo) and Orange as an additional colour.

Finally, my dealer was quoting 4 months delivery for the 48v as averse to 12 months for the HEV and as another poster has already pointed out re MPG you can buy a lot of fuel for the £700 AP difference.

    Hope this helps.
