Does your home have a driveway?

Before making my order I went to the dealership fully prepared to get a PHEV. PHEV or electric. Petrol and Diesel were out of the equation.

One hour later and I left the dealer having ordered the petrol.

The Peugeot guy explained to me that because I park on the street, a PHEV wouldn’t really make sense.

I can’t charge it at home overnight. You can’t have charging cables crossing the pavement.

PHEVs don’t have rapid charging, so I can’t pull up at a charging point for 30 mins or less and fill the battery.

Really that leaves me with one option: sit at a public charger for 3 – 4 hours. And in the end you only get 37 miles of electric only range (that’s according to Peugeot. Real world is probably 20 – 30 miles).

And because PHEVs are often heavier than their petrol counterparts, the car may end up being less fuel efficient if you drive around on a depleted battery.

He explained that PHEVs can be great for the right people…but they can also be a massive gimmick if your home situation, lifestyle and driving habits don’t suit. I’m glad he gave me that info because the PHEV was an extra £1,000 AP and I almost went for it.

In regards to your question, this was his reply below. I’m happy to sit and wait for now…
