Could be taste, could be health related, could be moral choice (veganism), could be price – plenty of reasons.
Ironically lactose intolerance isn’t an issue with butter since butter only contains trace amounts (hence it not being sweet) and you’d need to occasionally just munch a knob of butter out of the tub for it to matter.
Which i assume (hope) nobody here does.
As with everything, processed food is entirely fine in the “correct” amounts, the same way “non-processed” food can be arse if eaten in the “wrong” amounts. I eat butter, but i also eat peanut butter, jam, bread (often combined to a PB&J) crisps, the occasional burger, 70%+ chocolate, yoghurt, olive oil, instant coffee etc. I just don’t eat mountains of it, and cook meals every day from scratch, seven days a week (gousto is great).
Processed foods are very much like alcohol, arguably.
