My wife used to get carers allowance until she was at the age to claim her pension and it stopped and the DWP informed her she was still my carer but unpaid.
Even with carers allowance she was an unpaid carer. Unpaid carer refers to, as i understand it, a “private carer”, as opposed to an employed/professional carer.
