    As I’m sure you know, PHEV’s have high quoted BHP figures but this only applies when both the battery and petrol engines are working in tandem, as they are designed to do. I don’t think that a lot of people realise this. A PHEV with a quoted bhp of (for example) 240 bhp could have a petrol engine providing around 160bhp and a battery providing around 80bhp. With both engine and battery working together you get the full 240bhp. However, some people order a PHEV with the intention of doing most of their (short) journeys in electric only mode, which is absolutely fine and obviously very cheap but, doing so, using my example, they are driving an 80bhp car, not a 240bhp one!
