Not so much Weather Watch as Weather Bomb. Definitely hit hurricane force 12 just after midday. Debris all over the place; quite big bits of trees; large lumps of fences. Neighbour in my road has a garden wall (brick) spread all over the carriageway. Wind moderating a bit – down to Beaufort 8 or 9, I’d guess. House windows and car covered in salt spray – we live just under half a mile from the actual coastline! Went out front door just to see what it was like. Unable to stand. Had to persuade the 6 st Mrs T to stay inside or I’d have to retrieve her from someone else’s garden!
One humorous part to Eunice: watching local news with volume off and subtitles on. Subtitles says: “Some planes and fairies have been delayed” Well, they will, won’t they. Those tiny little gossamer wings couldn’t cope with much more than a force 2. ?
