I finally got a build date from my local VW dealership, order was placed in October 2021 and I have been given a week 33 (August) built date. I was wondering, if the prices of options I ordered goes up, do I pay the increased prices or the prices at time of order? Also, when do the factories change over for the next model year? I am wondering if VW will be removing any standard features or making any optional extras standard equipment before/during my vehicle is being built. I recall when I ordered my Tiguan SEL in 2018 the panoramic roof had the ambient light removed, though that was due to safety concerns.
Hi Masquerade. As I’m sure you appreciate, your build date is a best guess at present and can (and will) change, probably several times. From memory with our last Tiguan order, the build date isn’t finally confirmed until around 2 or 3 weeks before it’s actually built. Our date changed about 6 times! Again, from memory, the model year changes are around July / August after the factory summer shutdown. On that basis, if your car does turn up in August it will be a 22MY. I don’t know the answer about option prices, but it’s going to be a frequent question with the excessive lead times at present. Technically, I think the option price is the one applicable when you order, but it would help to get some order paperwork from the dealer with those prices on. That way you would hope that the dealer would honour it either way. As for potential changes, if VW has any sense they will increase the spec of the R-Line to match the Elegance (given that the R-Line lacks around £2k of kit that’s standard on the Elegance), probably calling it R-Line Tech as they did before. I doubt that they would change the Elegance, although it must be one of the most expensive cars not to have leather as standard. Can’t see them adding that, although there are big discounts to be had on Tiguans for private buyers at present and I guess they wouldn’t be doing that if they were having no issues selling them.
I am hoping that they remove nothing but add more to the standard equipment list with the next model year and that I get the 23 model year, it would be a bonus having waited so long. If the Tech version ever turns up, I would prefer that as for the life of me I cannot understand the logic of VW, the higher up the model range you go, the less you get for your money. I currently have the SEL (Elegance equivalent) and it has more technology as standard over the R line of the same year and the same is true for the current facelift version, the R comes with even less, including safety equipment.
I will have to look at the paperwork to see if the prices for options are on there as the email the dealer sent me had the new prices, which have increased £10 per item but out of principal and having to pay the high AP I will not be paying the increased prices.
