This isn’t new.
Twenty years ago I ordered a Ford Mondeo and the dealer called three weeks before delivery to tell me he ‘cant find stock’ and ‘its a bit of a blow, isn’t it’. (And back then there was no Motability lease extensions. I had no car for 5 weeks whilst I sourced another)
In 2017 I ordered a Seat Leon (the £150 super deal) which took 9 months to be delivered. Dealer told me initially it would be ‘about 3 months’ for delivery. Not once did I hear from him, and it was up to me to chase.
