Can anyone confirm that we should get an order number for our car once ordered?
Yes and no. It depends on the manufacturer, with some manufacturers (VW for example) the order number is somewhat useless. Until recently you could track the factory progress with a VW order number, that doesn’t work anymore.
Nowadays, a VW “order number” refers to a car in the dealerships system, you personally can’t check anything with it, other than emailing them with the number and asking for status.
So, in short – yes, you should have gotten an order number, but no, you can’t do anything with it yourself. We know that first hand, we ordered a Golf GTE four weeks ago – our saleslady sent us the order number via SMS 15 minutes after we left the dealership.
In regards to the topic itself, as mentioned, we ordered a Golf GTE with a few extras (18″ wheels, heated seats, reverse camera and head up display – currently also considering adding the sunroof) four weeks ago, our lady quoted us 6 months roughly. We expect around 9-10 months. 🙁
