We live near the M5 which, for those who don’t know it, is the main arterial route to the South West of England. In the summer it is wall to wall caravans heading to Devon & Cornwall etc. I can confirm that, whilst it doesn’t appeal to us, caravanning is even more popular than ever.
As for suitable cars, the way that the Motability scheme is going there won’t be many cars left that can even pull the skin off a custard, let alone tow a big caravan ?
