What would be the point of showing the price per gallon when petrol is sold by the litre? Which of course is nothing to do with the EU, but Metrication started in the 1970s.
In fact it was the petrol industry at the time that wanted sale by the litre because petrol pumps of the day couldn’t cope with more than £1.99p per gallon.
