    Britain used to be the USA’s ‘Gateway into the EU’ because we were the only ‘English as a first language’ country that fully understood the intricacies of Trade with the EU and many businesses didn’t want to have to employ their own multi-lingual staff.  Brexit made us redundant and now the US deals directly with the EU, mainly Germany, because the Germans now employ fluent English-speaking intermediaries to do what we used to do.
