If it’s “too old”, there likely won’t be a fix other than getting at the very least a new CPU/motherboard. The reason for the incompatibility is most likely TMP 2.0 – you can check whether or not you can activate it in the BIOS (most boards after around 2015-2016 should have the option). If not, you’re out of luck. If you do, activate it and see if things got better. I personally don’t plan to upgrade for at least another year, considering W11 has VBS on by default – i genuinely can’t be arsed to faff around in the registry to get the computer to run as well as my W10 brick now. For those that don’t know, VBS is Virtualization-Based Security. Which leads to an up to 25% decrease in general performance. It’s rumoured to be only activated on OEM/SI systems, but why take chances – W10 runs sweet.
32gb 3600mhz ram “4 sticks for the x570 buff”
That’s not quite correct. It’s not about how many sticks you slap in, but how many ranks your ram has. 8gb sticks usually are single rank, 16gb sticks are dual rank. You always want to run a Ryzen dual rank, which is either 2x16gb or 4x8gb.
4x8gb is dual rank (two memory channels, 2x single rank each), as is 2x16gb (one memory channel, 2x dual rank). The main difference here is that 2x16gb is easier on the memory controller, making overclocking more stable/easy. There’s no difference between 4x8gb and 2x16gb for the average user though, that’s mostly for overclockers.
I’m assuming you got that information from our saviour, computerjesus aka Steve from Gamers Nexus? If so, in that video, he pinned a comment that the speed boost is exclusively in relation to 2x8gb and 4x8gb (due to the fact that 2x8gb would run single rank, not dual rank), and refers to Wendell who says that 2x16gb is the sweet spot.
Other than that, nice system. I’d like to upgrade (3800XT, 2080 Super, 32gb 8Pack Edition 3600CL14), but i don’t feel like i’m getting enough out of it just yet for the amount of time/money i’d need to spend. I’ll jump this generation (indeed, that’s how i usually do it – buy new stuff, float over the next generation and then buy new stuff again), i’ll be looking at 40xx cards once they come out.
It always hurts to realise after spending two grand on my PC that all it does for the main part is to run Minecraft at doubled frames lol.
