When standard I think that refers to no additional work needed such as putting in a breaker or changing tails or arranging unlooping or any earthing problems needing changing. Regards cable best to go with tethered and like you say you have the non tethered which you could add an adapter to so you can use as a granny charger when away from home or if the wall charger is faulty at any time so you can do a 3kw charge which is better than nothing. I just ordered my ID4 so expecting the call myself sometime. I have done a few basic checks so know that I have an unlooped supply and already have a 100amp main fuse and the tails are the required 25mm squared section. I don’t have a separate isolator switch but have one on the new consumer board that was fitted only two years ago when we had a major wiring job done as we had a new kitchen installed along with some other work done downstairs. Also we had new smart meters fitted by our energy supplier Octopus around May this year. Only issue I am unsure about is whether we have earth bonding in the gas meter cupboard outside. I have checked out the folks who install the wall charging points for MB and it reads like a horror story with all the negative feedback on them so expecting a bumpy ride by all accounts. Let me know how you get on, wishing yours goes OK.

You get a max of 15m cable on a standard install. My drive is at the rear, so requires about 20m. Not massively expensive as they only charge £5 per extra metre, but they’re already umming and ahhing about fitting it at the rear as there is a path around our driveways (that is ours), and they’re saying the cable could be a trip hazard. Add to that they will not dig the trench for the cable (they want it to be 600mm), and our box is nowhere near free. I could either get the charger fitted to the house and buy a long cable (that would weigh a ton), dig a 20m trench 600mm deep myself for them to lay the cable, or just get an outdoor socket fitted and use a granny charger.

The latter is my favourite at the moment, as we only use 30 miles ish of range per day, which will be more than covered with a granny charger. Any bigger or faster top ups can be done at the lidl 50kw for 25p/kwh…
