I have some sort of special deal with BG, where every unit used, throughout the house at any hour,   costs 14.5p. per unit If I change to EV tariff and charge at night, my overall bill increases, though the cost of charging the EV falls. As always, and they have been heavily criticized for it, the charging costs across the sector are as clear as mud. I set out with the idea that Octopus would be cheaper, I ended up staying with BG until the end of Jan when my deal expires. What to do next, who knows. The crucial thing seems to be the pattern and amount of EV charge needed and whether getting a reduction on the EV charging comes at the cost of an increase in overall spending….as in my case. There are some good deals out there. Perhaps people need to look at the automatic switching services, you can check out what, Which, recommends, some are better than others. But they might do all the working out for you. But do look at the overall pattern of your usage, not the headline figure for EV charging, and work out how much you use Ev charging and when.
