    True James. But topping up between short local journeys can stop the car needing to revert to the engine over the course of a day.

    A full charge on a 13A socket predicts to take longer than it actually takes which is about 4.5 hours and in our case unless we’ve just done a long journey, the battery will have some charge in it to start with and take much less time.

    The log on the Volvo app tells you precisely how much electricity has been used from the battery for each journey, and how much has been regenerated, so it’s possible to calc the cost approximately, given that not all that comes out of the wall plug comes out of the battery.

    But as I expressed, I’m not that bothered – if it costs no more to run than our last car, the X1, it does for me, given the other advantages, and I’ve proved to myself it is cheaper.  When I manage to get a smart meter installed and get on a better tariff, it’ll be cheaper still.
