I was allowed to change free of charge after only a few months but this was only down to the really bad service from Vauxhall. My car was very late on delivery and during the waiting time it was downgraded in what I felt were a number of key areas from the model I sat in and ordered from the showroom.
I hope your Mum finds a solution.
