Thank goodness I have run flat tyres fitted. I still think all cars should be supplied with a spare wheel, even if it’s a space saver. I also carry a tyre inflator I got from Halford’s, made by Ring. Much easier than struggling with those on the garage fore court. If and when they work.
I’m a great fan of run flat tyres Joss. Sadly, BMW seems to be moving away from them (our new X1 doesn’t have them) and I am convinced that’s due to the endless negative comment from the motoring press about them. They talk about them ruining the ride quality but that’s nonsense. I’ve had at least 4 cars with them and never experienced any negative issues at all.
The ability to use your car as normal for days until you can get the tyre replaced at your convenience is priceless, especially for disabled drivers. They advise you not to drive above 50mph on a run flat with a puncture but I once did a 220 mile round trip on a punctured run flat at 70mph with no issues whatsoever. I think it’s a shame that they aren’t standard on all cars.
