Well I’ve had a 24hr test in both the Volvo and the Peugeot so feel that I am well placed to comment on both cars through experience rather than pre conceived ideas of what a car is like.
I like the look of the Volvo, on the outside anyway. Inside I thought was dated rather than classy, It felt well put together and as if it would last but pretty boring in my opinion. The Volvo drive was ok, a little uninspiring like the interior. To be fair it was comfortable and that is what it’s supposed to, It has no sporting pretensions. The petrol engine was harsh when pushed, but I don’t suppose you would want to push it very often so maybe not an issue. My experience with regards to range/mpg are based on living in a rural, very hilly part of North Yorkshire. It was pretty poor to be honest, living where we do I would be pushed to return 30mpg unless I was going on a run further afield. Same thing for the electric range really. I was looking for a car that would complete a 25 mile round trip for the school run on pure electric, it wasn’t going to happen in the Volvo
The 3008 made me smile when I was still 20yds away from it. From the outside it’s certainly a looker. On the inside the i cockpit is also visually impressive, no issues with being able to see the display over the wheel. Someone commented on the small wheel in an earlier post, the truth is after an hour you’re totally used to it. It’s another comfortable car. Although there is no doubting it’s accelaration and overtaking prowess it is not a sports car and it doesn’t claim to be one either. It’s quiet, safe and capable. Range was good, my 25 mile round trip was completed with ease. I thing mpg was high 30’s. All much improved over the Volvo and with 4wd too!
As previously stated these are my opinions based on where I live etc and things may be different for other people. I ahve ordered a 3008 hybrid 4 based on these experiences and the fact that the Peugeot made me smile. Just base your choice on something real rather than someone slating French cars based on nothing other than heresay. I have owned 5 Volvos and loved every one but in this instance it was not for me.
Also note that the black pack is now available on GT trim hence my order for Hybrid4 in vertigo blue with black pack.
