According to this, it’ll struggle to get 40mpg on petrol alone. Does make sense, too. Here’s the specs of the petrol engine itself (it’s the 180hp 1.6 PureTech).

Keep in mind that the Hybrid is heavier, so it’ll sip more. You could also see how much the Citroen C5 Aircross drinks (maybe there’s more info on that car) – the 225 has the same drivetrain.
