I need wide doors, automatic transmission and enough space inside for me and my wheelchair. So the BMW 2-series coupe is perfect for me, I ordered one on the scheme in 2019 and adore it. I was sad to see it removed from the scheme and I really hope it comes back. I think the 3-door Fiestas is just about the only realistic option for me of all the cars currently on the scheme. It would be very odd if I left the scheme because of my disability needs (which are far from unique). I’d like to see the equality impact assessment that Motability carry out when deciding which models to include on the scheme – they must take into account the needs of wheelchair users who need wide doors.
But I also appreciate that mid-sized 3-door cars are basically non-existent these days – there are no 3-door Golf, Focus, 1 series, A3, Astra etc. being manufactured anywhere in the world.
And there aren’t really many 2-door coupes that can realistically be added to the scheme. The 2-series being the exception, which is why I think it is ideal for inclusion the scheme.
