Boris is allegedly skint as is the country having blown £400 billion that we don’t have in just 12 months. 37 billion on test and trace mere pocket money. Our grandchildren will still be paying the bill 25 years hence
spending money on rail and road infrastructure in the north far better bet than grandiose vanity projects imho.  Was also a dumping ground for munitions post WW2, thousands of tons of bombs. A tunnel will take a decade or more and politics will have moved on. 3 year over run on Crossrail so far. I used to fly to Belfast frequently back in the 80s and it was sad to see the run down Holland and Wolfe shipyards that built the Titanic and others. Bombardier another casualty. NI needs investment, no doubt. Have also driven down the A27 from Ayr to Stranraer. Very scenic but to say that it would need updating is a gross understatement. The journey east to the M6/ A74 is also an epic. The scenic rail link to Ayr an unknown quantity. Boris has a history of stupid ideas, Thames estuary airport a classic. A nightmare for access unless you live in central London, Kent or Essex. Kansai airport in Osaka bay began to “settle” much earlier than expected and those Japanese engineers don’t cut corners, although the tsunami proof sea wall is probably not a good example. Nature often has the last say.
