I have to admit I’m still in two minds about this. I understand the “instant torque” appeal of electric power; but the figures still point to this new ID.3 being considerably less powerful. Even more confusing is what VW’s plan is for the introduction of EVs. With its ICE models, the company always seemed to introduce the lower-powered models first, promising and bringing in the GTis and the like later, Other way round here.
Perhaps it is not without note that Golfs have of late been up-to-150ishbhp and then nothing more powerful until you get to the 230+ bhp GTis. The previous 2.0L 200ish bhp models were taken way (not just the Golf, either – Skodas lost this power setting too). With the ID.3 VW starts the range with 200bhp. Making a hole and then filling it?
