Vinalspin your dashcam footage may not have shown the car you had to swerve for but a camera in a car behind you possibly would.

The major point with this issue is UK driving is getting worse everyday due to the lack of roads policing and a lot dof drivers are taking chances purely due to lack of police.

If your driving properly you have nothing to worry about.

For those saying it’s ridiculous and what if parts of an incident are missed would you take the points are simply missing the point.

Your acting like the police are just going to hand out penalties. They don’t. The footage has to meet stringent criteria and if you as the suspect have mitigation to submit such as the footage not showing everything then you can do that the same as any other offence.

Footage from a police vehicle is considered pretty much absolute evidence as its invariably witnessed by the officer in the car who is classed as an expert witness.

Footage from anyone else doesn’t have that absolute nature and as such has to complete a vastly more stringent test.

Firstly the lack of preceding footage or footage that doesn’t show the full scene or incident would be excluded. Or at worst instigate a letter of advice to the driver.

Forces are not in the game of chucking penalties at anyone caught on a clip. Firstly it would be too expensive. If people argue the toss and choose to go to court that costs money. On top of that people complaining causes bad press. Contrary to popular belief the police actually don’t like bad press.

I’m ex police so have dealt with this directly. The majority of clips don’t lead to anything exactly because they don’t show enough of an incident or simply is insufficient evidence of wrongdoing.

The way this footage is easiest used is red light jumpers. Footage has a clear run up and shows a blatant disregard for the light or just taking the chance. Either way you shouldn’t be doing it so you will get what you deserve.

I think someone commented footage should only be used in an accident.

How stupid. Accidents kill and ruin the lives of people everyday. If this footage prevents 1 accident then it’s worth it.
