We have vaccines that are 70-90% effective and that also reduce the prospect of acute symptoms, hospitalization and onward transmission, coupled with better hospital treatments, steroids etc is a far better place to be compared with this time last year. Not sufficient for the return of pre covid life but hopefully something a lot better than life in 2020. Government needs to be pro-active and react without delay to other strains of covid as soon as any risk is identified. Interestingly is does appear that large crowds at sporting events, festivals etc is a still long way off.
