I’ve sometimes wondered how electric HGV’s would work in the real world. The weight of the batteries alone would surely count for a quarter the ‘load capacity’ for the 44 tonners and how long would it take to charge them all, and what kind of range would they have per charge? Any company with lorries off the road is losing money and long-distance/international haulage could become an even worse nightmare than it currently is.
Currently, single deck electric coaches/buses only have a Range of about 70 miles and take about an hour to recharge using a rapid 50kw rapid charger, plus 8 hour overnight trickle charge, and they’re considerably lighter than a fully loaded HGV.
Still, there’s always the Nikola ‘Tre’. One day . . . 😀
