My brother used to have a 116d and every time I’ve been in it I thought it was absolutely fine. I used to really like the feel of the interior and everything you touch felt really solid. I thought the standard sound system was good and the ride comfort was good too. I was expecting it to be really hard due to it being an m sport but it was fine for me.
I felt it did lack a little bit of power for a car that looks the way it does but hey, it wasn’t an unpleasant surprise as I’d seen the spec sheet so I knew what to expect.
It will be in the same ball park as the equivalent merc, audi, ford etc for performance.
As Adam says, it’s enough for day to day driving but don’t expect sports car performance. The car is built for economy not speed so judge it on that instead.
I’d recommend arranging a test drive if you can then you can see what you think of it.
