Hybrid cars that can operate for “substantial” distances on pure electric power is what was mooted, so that means PHEVs with large enough batteries get to hang around, but mild hybrids, “self-charging” hybrids, etc., will go the way of the Dodo from 2030.
We don’t know what “substantial” means yet, could it refer to the range extender types such as the earlier BMW i3 REx?
