Guess there are pro’s and cons to all gearboxes and variables in them from model to model.
right now i driving the civic sport with a cvt and unless i use the paddles it has no gear changes at all, when it’s just in D or S and is a super smooth drive.
if i want the vtec to come in i need to use the paddles as the revs in the other modes just don’t go high enough but then it gives you S1 S2 etc and is a whole different car, deffo for overtaking i use the paddles as it becomes a real animal of a car..
my last car was a golf mk7 with the dsg and i’d get another but it also had a tendency to have the revs as low as possible and often would change up gears far to early imo when cruising along, so one had to kick down to pull anywhere and pickup speed. Which meant putting your foot to the floor to make it kick down. Which for me is not great and causes me more pain.
It was from one extreme to the other unless you drove it in sport mode but then it would drink alot more fuel. and after vw did a software update of the engine management it was even worse, but that was when it went for it’s mot. It was a totally different car to drive. I started using the semi auto more and more and it was not as smooth a drive as the civic is for the reasons i said.. So although alot seem to h8 the cvt for me it does a pretty god job all of the time at least in the civic 1.5l turbo vtec sport.
