I think it’s all down to geography. Being a Cardiff boy I know how many dealers there are within a 50 mile radius and that makes it easier to play them off. I now live in northern Scotland and not only is the distance to another dealer prohibitive but they’re all owned by very few big companies anyway (Arnold Clark, John Clark), and they know this. I’ve lived here for 20yrs and deals are never as good (and that’s as a regular punter, not Mobility). As for loyalty, these big franchises don’t seem to give a rat’s arse about that. TBH I’d put level of service way higher than discount, unfortunately I don’t think I’ll see any of either. The XC40 is still the best deal going at the moment for a small (ish) SUV, which is why I succumbed and ordered. In the end I did manage to get more out of them but that was via my trade in as this is my first motability car. Won’t be able to do that the next time!
